Who is Kal-El?

My name is Kal-El and I am the most powerful being on the planet Earth.

I am an alien who has the powers of flight, superhuman strength, x-ray vision, heat vision, cold breath, super-speed and enhanced hearing!

I am technically from the planet Krypton, but when my birth parents saw our home was dying, they put me into a spaceship and sent me to Earth so I would survive. I was then raised by Jonathan and Martha Kent after my spaceship crash-landed by their home in Smallville, Kansas. They adopted me as their son, and gave me the name, Clark Kent!

My abilities began to slowly show themselves as I grew up in our small town, and eventually my parents revealed my true origins to me! From that day on, I decided to start fighting crime as my alter ego, Superman! I had extraordinary gifts due to my heritage, and I wanted to help innocent people, and stop evil wherever and whenever I could.

When I’m not fighting crime, I am working! After finishing college, I started working at the Daily Planet as a reporter. I write a lot of stories, mostly about Superman saving the day! Through this job, I was able to meet my girlfriend, Lois Lane and my friend, Jimmy Olsen!

Every day, I fly through the streets of Metropolis protecting its citizens in any way I can. I never imagined that after stitching together costume in my backyard that I would one day become the superhero everybody knows as, Superman! 

Come help Superman and the rest of the Justice League this summer, by doing the Save the Superheroes Scavenger Hunt in the Children’s Room at the Avon Free Public Library.

Summer Reading is here!

Summer means more time for all the fun activities you love to do, like going out for ice cream, hanging out with friends, and reading as many cool books as you want. 

To add even more excitement to your summer reading adventure, sign up for the Avon Free Public Library’s summer reading program and get awesome prizes for all of your hard work! 

Our program starts with choosing either a 6, 12, or 24 book goal to complete by the end of summer. As you read, you can log the titles online, and during your next visit to the library, you can claim sweet treats like a cupcake from Taste by Spellbound, a J. Foster ice cream cone, and a Ben and Jerry’s ice cream cone. 

Once you’re full on sweets, it’s time to enjoy the other cool prizes, like a Bertucci’s kids’ meal, a REAL Kids Meal from BGood or a Bagel and Cream Cheese from Bruegger’s Bagels, Yard Goats baseball tickets, and a pass to Quassy amusement park. 

Every visit to the library gives you another chance to win our summer prize packages. Just grab a yellow ticket from the bin on our desk, write your name and phone number, and place it inside one of our 15 prize jars. 

Prizes include a ukulele, Pokémon cards, a LEGO kit, a marble run, and more! 

At the end of the summer, one lucky winner will win each prize.

1. Go online to http://www.avonctlibrary.info/Childrens.htm

2. Click on the icon for the number of books you want as your goal this summer (6 books, 12 books, or 24 books)

3. Click on the button that says “Sign me up” (just above the username and password fields)

4. Fill out the form with the information you are asked and hit save

5. Start logging your books!

6. When you log into your account and it tells you that you are eligible to claim your rewards, come to the library to pick them up!

Nature Nick’s Animal Adventures

What could it be?

It’s a kangaroo!!

A real live kangaroo is going to be at the library this week! Come to the library on Wednesday, June 28th at 3:00 pm to see it with your own eyes.  Along with the kangaroo, there will be lots of other interesting animals like a monkey, a flamingo, and even more cool creatures.  This is a show you definitely don’t want to miss!
