It's not too late!!! Calling all Readers!

Have you been reading all summer but haven’t been signed up to get rewards for it? 

Don’t sweat it too much because it’s not too late to sign up for Summer Reading here at the Avon Library.  

Then you will get to enjoy your books and the super sweet treats that come along with the program- things like ice cream, pizza, cupcakes, and a trip to an amusement park!  

You don’t want to miss out on these rewards and the awesome program here.  

It’s easy to sign up, log your books, and collect your prizes.  

If we’ve convinced you to sign up yet, all you have to do is follow these easy steps:

1.  Go online to http://www.avonctlibrary.info/Childrens.htm

2.  Click on the icon for the number of books you want as your goal this summer (6 books, 12 books, or 24 books)

3.  Click on the button that says “Sign me up” (just above the username and password fields)

4.  Fill out the form with the information you are asked and hit save

5.  Start logging your books! 

6.  When you log into your account and it tells you that you are eligible to claim your rewards, come to the library to pick them up! 

Log the books you’ve already been reading all summer or start reading now and be motivated by winning these awesome rewards!

Boom Chocolatta..................

This reward allows you to get a sweet scoop of Ben and Jerry’s ice cream.  

Try out new flavors like Boom Chocolatta, Peanut Buttah, Spectacular Speculoos, Save our Swirled, and the Tonight Dough.  

Or you can go with a classic like Phish Food, Mint Chocolate Chunk, Sweet Cream and Cookies, Coffee Coffee BuzzBuzzBuzz, or Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough.  

Whatever you choose, you will get a tasty treat and have something to help you cool off during the hot summer.

Hartford Symphony Orchestra Zoo- July 29th

Ever wondered what it would be like to play the trumpet? 

Ever thought about trying the violin? 

Want to see if the flute could be the right instrument for you? 

Come try out all these instruments and more at the Instrument Zoo.  

This Wednesday at 3pm in the community room, the Harford Symphony Orchestra will be visiting with many of the different instruments you would find in an orchestra.  

And you will get a chance to try them all out!  

You can test out what instrument you might like to pick up, or just try a bunch of different instruments to see what it is like to play them all.  

If you love music, this event is for you.  

You don’t need any experience with instruments, just be ready to have fun.

Do you like pizza?

Who would turn down a free slice of pizza? No one I know.  

And that’s what you are going to get for your fourth reward! 

Hot Heaven makes delicious New York style pizzas and you will be able to have your pick between a cheese or pepperoni slice.  

No matter what you choose, it will still be a tasty slice of FREE PIZZA! Keep up the reading so you can come claim this yummy reward!

Li Liu ~ Chinese Acrobat! Wednesday July 22nd

She can ride a bike sitting on the handlebars, while balancing something on her head and at the same time spin a plate in her hand.  

She can balance on one hand on top of a metal rod on top of a table. 

She can spin six plates at once, while at the same time doing a headstand.  AND, she’s coming to our library!  

Li Liu, an incredibly skilled acrobat, has travelled to Europe, Africa, Asia, and all across the US to perform her amazing acrobatics.  

She even has performed on national television and at professional sports games.  

Come to the library this Wednesday July 22nd at 3:00pm to see Li defy gravity and do the impossible in a performance including balancing, juggling, dancing with ribbons, plate spinning, trick bicycling and much more.  

Hungry for some pizza?

For your fourth reward, Bertucci’s is going to give you a free kid’s meal!   

You can order things like a pizza, spaghetti and meatballs, chicken fingers, mac and cheese, ravioli, Bertucci style grilled-cheese and chicken with broccoli.  

Your meal will also come with a free drink and ice cream for dessert ......and those delicious rolls.

Robotics Super Show!

Have you ever seen a robot fling a Frisbee across a room? 

Or shoot a basketball? 

Well if you come to the library this Wednesday, July 15th at 3 pm - 

you will be able to say you have.  

The Uberbots from Avon High School are coming to the library and will be giving a demonstration of the different robots they have created.  

They will be teaching you about how robotics work and show you all the cool tricks their robots can do!  

Come to the community room at 3pm this Wednesday

 to see the Uberbots in motion!

Wanna get some ice cream?

Get ready for some of the most delicious ice cream in town!

This year you will earn J Foster ice cream cones when you read to complete your summer goal.  

Try some of the famous blue Cookie Monster ice cream, or a bunch of different flavors that are all homemade and very tasty.  

Did you know that J Foster’s has even won awards for their ice cream?  

Keep reading hard because you definitely don’t want to miss out on this sweet treat!

Wanna see a baseball game?

How sweet of a deal is it to get to go to a professional baseball game for free? 

For this reward, you will earn two tickets to a Rock Cats Baseball game. 

You even get to pick if you want to go on August 11^th, 12^th, or 13^th.   

When you go to the game, you will possibly have the chance to take part in activities on the field, and you will be entered into a contest to be selected as the 2015 Citizens Bank All-Star Reader.  

And all you have to do to experience this awesome night is READ!

Magic Show Wednesday July 8th!

Come see a magic show that has tricks that will knock your socks off. 

Ed Popielarczyk is a magician who has been performing for over twenty years and really knows how to make kids smile.  

Join us at 3 pm for a day of a little magic and a lot of laughter.  

You never know just what might appear out of thin air or disappear just as quickly.
