Connecticut’s State Hero – Nathan Hale
Nathan Hale was born on June 6, 1755.
In 1773, Nathan Hale graduated from Yale
University.
He worked as a schoolteacher until the
year 1775, when the American Revolutionary War began.
Nathan Hale joined the Connecticut
militia. He volunteered to spy on the British troops, but he had never trained
to be a spy.
It is not clear how the British found
out he was a spy, but when they discovered his secret, they arrested him.
It
is said that Nathan Hale’s last words were, “I only regret that I have but one
life to give for my country”.
